Sleeping Beauty Gets Released

The surgeon's optimism about Tir's recovery was proven to be warranted when Tir was released from the hospital exactly a week after he'd been admitted. Amidst a crowd of nurses who had gathered to say goodbye to their favorite patient, Peter happily wheeled his lover out to a waiting car that Moragainne had sent to pick them up and take them to her home. The generous offer to have Tir and Peter stay with her would have been impossible to refuse. Peter knew that Tir would feel more relaxed in the warmth of a real home rather than the hotel, and he would have more space for his temporary office. It was an ideal situation. Peter had made his phone calls, and while he'd been disappointed that Inez said she wouldn't be joining them, he did understand that while he thought of her as a mother, the truth was she was Will's mom and her taking a trip to Ireland to be with Peter would upset him. Things were already on shaky ground with Will and Peter didn't want to run the risk of losing him. He was dreading telling him about the engagement, but he knew that it would need to be done.

Once they were settled in the car, Peter put his arm around Tir so his lover could rest against him. "How're you feeling, baby? We can still have an ambulance take you if you don't think you'll be comfortable."

"No, luv, y're not t' blame." He cupped Peter's face in his hand and kissed the Yank soundly. "Y' could've done more if I'd come t' y' and then when y' were fightin' him, I should've listened t' y'."

"I want to kill him for what he did to you," Peter whispered against Tir's mouth. "Not just that night, but...everything. If you were that afraid of him... I just want him dead."

Tir's hands clutched at Peter's shirt in momentary panic. "No...y' musn't, if they catch y' they'll take y' away."

"No, baby, no, it's okay. I've had this talk with Moragainne and I'm not going to do anything stupid," Peter assured his lover with a kiss. "But it doesn't stop me from wishing I could do it."

"Thank God for Moragainne, talkin' sense t' y'." Tir relaxed. "Trust me, luv, the fact he pulled a knife on y' makes me want the same chance."

"Maybe we'll get our wishes, hmm?" Peter said with a half smile. "Not that... I know you loved him at one time. I don't want to discount that."

"Any love I had for Colm O'Muire, he killed long ago, Peter." Tir answered solemnly. "But then I found you t' teach me t' love again."

Peter kissed Tir again and held him close. He wasn't going to let himself think about how close he came to losing the man he loved, but that sick, scared feeling was going to be lurking in the back of his mind for the rest of his days.

"Maybe then the universe'll sort everything out," he said softly, thinking about what Moragainne had said about Colm perhaps getting what was coming to him.

"Y' know, even more important than love, Peter, y' gave m' back trust." Tir said softly as he nestled his head against the Yank's shoulder.

Peter closed his eyes and stroked Tir's hair. "Oh, baby..." he whispered, more touched than he could ever adequately express.

He felt the car slow to a stop and looked out the car window to see that they'd arrived at a beautiful house. "I think we're here," he whispered.

Tir raised his head and looked at the large old house with a grin. "Appears we'll be living the life o' Reilly for a bit, aye? Did I ever tell y' Moragainne is a Dowager Marquess? Her second husband was a peer of the British realm and distant cousin t' the Queen Mum. Not bad friends t' have for a corner lad, yeah?"

Peter laughed and kissed Tir on the forehead. "Well, Kory used to make costumes for drag queens, so I'm familiar with the royal set," he teased.

Tir laughed out loud until the movement caused a sharp twinge in his back. "Ow..." He forced himself to calm and be still. "I'll have t' be sure and tell Mora that, it'll gie her a good laugh."

"Oh, baby," Peter said, frowning at his lover's pain. "I'll make sure to get you some medication once we get inside." He kissed Tir again. "I'm sure Mora will understand if you need to rest."

Tir smiled and rested a hand on Peter's chest. "All I need is the careful attention of my personal nurse here, aye? And later maybe y' can gie me a sponge bath and a rub down."

"Uh oh," Peter murmured, "you might have to give me a second before we get out of the car because I just got a boner."

"Poor you." Tir grinned wickedly. "Need a hand wie it, mate?"

"Don't you dare," Peter said, touching his head to Tir's shoulder. "Let me just think of something really awful so it'll go away." He smiled. "You can help me once we have a little more privacy tonight."

"I could tell y' about the girl I nearly slept with." Tir offered. "Her name was Mary Margaret Fahey. She had the worst garlic breath and crossed eyes. Last I heard she became a nun."

Peter gave him an incredulous look. "And...there it goes," he said, laughing and hugging him. "Thank you for that very disturbing mental image."

"Always glad t' help, luv." Tir giggled. "Trust m' I had much the same reaction t' Mary Margaret m'self."

"Is that what led to you being gay, love?" Peter asked, trying to stop laughing. "Because I would totally understand."

"Nah." Tir was laughing right along with Peter. "Mary Margaret was trying to convince m I wasna gay...it didn't work."

"Thank god she wasn't really hot, because we might not be having this conversation right now," Peter said with a hiccup of laughter. "You'd have been lost to the team forever."

"I love that laugh, Yank." Tir ran his thumb over Peter's lower lip with a satisfied smile. "And I wouldna worry t' much on that score. Mary Margaret's older sister tried as well and a pretty girl there never was."
